i remember going to see blondie and i was on crutches and our seats were the top of the thgreater back row i had to climb all those stair what a mission that was i seen the frocks at the civic too

It was an exciting afternoon at the civic to celebrate Lenore Truscott and to see her wonderful photo in the showcase. Ross organized the afternoon and there were many stories told about those wonderful caberet times in the 1940’s!

Was stationed in Auckland durning ww2 with e US Army for over a year and enjoyed the Civil Theather many times . Still the best that I was ever in.

8.2.11. Iris (Norgrove) Gray died quietly in her sleep last night in Melbourne this morning in her 89th year. All her family remained over there but she lived in NZ in retirement until a year or two ago when she returned to Melbourne to be closer to her family. Iris was a celebrated Civic theatre organist and there are is a biography and photo on this website.

Work will start in the new year on a significant revamp of the Civic's elaborate street verandah, which was retained essentially intact during the major restoration eleven years ago, but which now needs some work. This will see it in stages stripped of its underside decorative tiles, fascia, and upper roofing, so that ageing internal timber framing can be replaced, and the main steel structural frame upgraded.
