This year's Heritage Open days at the Civic were an unqualified success.

Some Like it Hot

Once again the 2007 Heritage open days were a great success.

We sold a number of DVD’s & Booklets & had a few visitors recalling their memories.
Thomas O’Brien’s great nephew, Lyall, came in with some fascinating photos and memorabilia to show us.

This year the Art Deco Society put on a great fashion parade & had interesting displays in the Wintergarden.

The tours of the Theatre were the biggest attraction of all at the Civic. They were phenomenally well attended this year keeping George Farrant, Heritage Architect, and Sarah fully booked!

Eric Kearney, founder and arbitrator of the Civic tours (with a wealth of tales of the Civic!) conducts Civic Theatre Tours all year round and will agree that there is a big demand for tours.

This all culminated in the Highlight of the heritage Week with a nostalgic film evening.
Ushers with torches showing patrons to their seats, an introduction from the mayor of Auckland, Dick Hubbard, then an introduction to the star and cloud sequence and the film by Eric kearney. Then it was standing for ‘God save the Queen’ historic newsreels, intermission, and a screening of the 1959 comedy classic, 'Some Like it Hot'.

A wonderful evening of film in a palace of dreams.
